About Us

Mother-Daughter Team:

personel bio pic

Sue Warter and Beth Ith (Warter) have been teaching side by side at Studio 1 since 1998. In January 2011, Beth was appointed Co-Director of Studio 1 along side her mom, Sue.

Studio 1 prides itself on its family atmosphere because we are Directed by a Mother/Daughter Team. Our goals are the same; to encourage dance eduation through classes and performances.

Our Studio:

Studio 1 offers three state-of-the art dance studios. Each studio has professional "floating" hardwood dance floors, with one dance floor resurfaced with marley flooring. Marley floors are a great surface for pointe, ballet, jazz, and lyrical dancing. Studio 1 installed the marley floor in the summer of 2010. Each dance room has floor to ceiling and wall to wall mirrors, with viewing doors. Studio 1 offers a selection of dance wear, tights, and dance shoes for purchase.

In the Beginning:

Sue Warter's love for dance began at a young age, when her mother first put her in a ballet class at Verla Flowers Dance Arts, Seattle. When Sue became a mother herself, she knew she'd want her daughters to be involved in dance as well. Both Sue's daughter's Shauna and Beth began dancing at Gloria Hudsons in Kirkland at preschool ages. Their interest in dance quickly turned into a passion, especially for Sue's younger daughter, Beth, who starting competiting at dance competitions by the age of 6 yrs old. Sue began substituting dance classes at Gloria Hudsons, and then in 1987 Studio 1 was founded in Maltby, WA. In the beginning, Sue herself taught every dance class. As Studio 1 grew, so did the demand for more classes and studio space. In 1992 Studio 1 moved to its current location in the Woodgate Mall area of Woodinville, which allowed Sue the opportunity to create a high quality dance studio, providing the very best atmosphere to promote the love of dance.

The Growing Years:

As the studio grew, so did our faculty. Studio 1 has always offered a wide variety of dance teachers, enabling everyone to find the "perfect fit" for their dancer. We are very lucky to come across loyal and dedicated teachers, whom many have spent 5-10+ years on our faculty. Their dedication is what inspires and progresses the children on to advance levels. Sue was very happy to see her daughter Beth follow her dreams of becoming an educator. Beth left to WWU in 1997, determined to get her teaching certificate, but in 2001 after graduating from WWU with a Socoiology Degree, realized her heart belonged to the art dance and at Studio 1. Beth took her passion and love for Tap dancing and teaching and created one of the Top Tap Programs in the Eastside today. Studio 1 is very proud to offer a strong tap program to students of all ages and levels, led by such a dedicated and passionate teacher.

Why Dance at Studio 1?

There are no limits to the art of dance. As each generation becomes better than the last, we see the love of dance grow more and more. Studio 1 is a great place to dance because we offer all spectrums of ability levels and dance styles which allow for the most growth as individual dancers. Our teachers make lifelong bonds with their students, which makes their dance education a more personal journey. We are proud to see dancers start in our preschool classes and graduate high school with us. It doesn't matter if you want to be recreational or competitive, Studio 1 doesn't limit a dancer. You can reach any advanced level at Studio 1, whether you are on our Dance Team or not. The greatest gift we at Studio 1 can offer is passionate and enthusiastic dance education.
