Class Description
Creative Movement
A 45 min class that introduces 3-4 year olds
to the art of dance and spatial movement. Fun dance activities
allow the dancer to explore his/her space through musical movement.
Creative Dance
A 45 min or 1 hour class that introduces 3-4
or 5-6 year olds
to the art of dance, with technique, and spatial movement.
Dance steps are explored through imagery
and improvisation. Focuses include opposites (soft/loud,
up/down, big/little, etc.), musicality, floor patterns and body
parts/awareness. An emphasis on Dance technique through creative
movement.
Pre-Ballet
A 45 min Ballet/Creative
Movement class designed for 3-4 year olds. Dancers will begin
to learn basic Ballet technique while being introduce to spatial and musical
movements.
Preschool Combination
A 1 hour long class targeted
to ages 3-4 yrs. Basic dance steps are learned through fun and
creative dance, especially designed for their age group. This
quick moving class includes Tap, Baton, Ballet, and basic Tumbling
on mats.
Continued Preschool Combination
A 1 hour long
class for dancers ages 4-5 yrs. This "continued" preschool
class allows children with dance experience the opportunity to build
on their dance basics. This dance class also includes Tap, Baton,
Ballet, and basic Tumbling on mats.
Ballet/Tap Combination
A 1 hour long class, which includes approximately 30 min of both Tap
and Ballet training. Combination classes are a great way to
introduce the various styles of dance to children ages 4-7.
Various age groups and levels allow for personal advancement.
Jazz/Tap Combination
A 1 hour long class, which includes approximately 30 min of both
Jazz and Tap training. Combination classes can allow
exploration into a variety of different dance styles. This
style of combo class is offered to dancers age 5-9.
Tap
The style of dance where syncopated
sounds are created with the toe and heel using tap shoes.
Traditional, Broadway, Contemporary, and Rhythm styles are
incorporated to enrich the tap dancer.
Ballet
This style of
dance stresses academic technique developed through muscle strength,
balance, control, and fluid movements. A theatrical work in
which a choreographer has expressed his/her ideas in dancing to musical
accompaniment.
Pointe
The tip of the toe. The
blocked toe Pointe Shoe allows dancers to achieve great feats of
virtuosity balanced on the tips of their toes.
Designed only
for the Advanced Ballet dancer, ages 12 and up.
Contemporary
Contemporary Dance is a genre of concert dance that
uses methods found in modern dance, postmodern dance as well as
classical ballet. It draws on modern dance techniques including
Horton, Graham, Bartenieff Fundamentals, Laban, Pilates and Yoga
to gain core strength, flexibility and energy flow. It has
emphasis on improvisation, partnering, strong technique, body
awareness and quality of movement. By focusing on expression
through movement, dancers will gain freedom to explore their own
personal style.
Jazz
This dance style incorporates
elements of various dance dialects, freedom of joint tension, and a
conscious connection to space. Jazz dance emphasizes
opposition, flexibility, and control of isolations.
Lyrical
A fluid style of
dance incorporating classical ballet, modern dance, and jazz
technique. Lyrical allows the dancer to express his/her own
emotions while interpreting the lyrics and/or mood of the music.
Hip Hop
Considered a
Street Dance style. Hip Hop can include, but is not limited
to: Pop, Lock, Funk, Krumping, Jazz, and Break Dancing. It is
a very upbeat and energetic form of popular dance today.
